Flagstaffmama’s Weblog

I think she explains this best… But, I wouldn’t get too excited. As we all know, I have been trying to raise awareness about this for 2 months now.  It seems like it will allow for certain products (like those on ETSY and HyenaCart) to be sold for another year, while they review the issues at hand. I am proud that I fought so hard to get this amended in a grassroots way, and it just might be. Kinda like Obama’s election, I feel like I may have had a minuscule part in history. It does say that items must meet the CPSIA standards, but it sounds like they just won’t punish those that exercise due diligence, and that don’t knowingly exceed lead or phalate levels. I always wondered how they planned on enforcing this in the first place. Go to all the church craft fairs? LOL.

Here is the PR by CPSIA

{January 29, 2009}   Babystyle seems like it is DONE!

This is what it says on their homepage…… I obviously  copied and pasted it from them.

We’re sorry but we have suspended operation of our site.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.  We hope we’ll be back soon.Any pending orders that have not yet shipped have been cancelled and your credit card will not be charged.”

I must say I was never a huge fan. My DD has one outfit from BS. I think their stuff was overpriced for what you get, and I don’t love the styles either. If I am paying that much it should be organic,  sustainable, fair trade,  etc. I also don’t care for a lot of Hannah Anderrson stuff, either. Most mom’s LOVE HA, I just can’t seem to get into the styles they have. BS going out of business is a sign of the times. A lot of niche retailers are going under. Maybe we will appreciate what we have more, and not be such consumers…..

So, it would seem that the a-holes from Peanut Corp. of America, KNEW their PB was testing POSITIVE for salmonella, but shipped it out anyway!

What a effing joke! These people suck!!!! Letting people die, so they could make money. These stories don’t shock me anymore, but they are still disturbing, sickening even.  I would love to force feed them their tainted PB.  They are now facing a criminal investigation.

So, who wants to move to a deserted island with me, so we can atart our own BPA, Paraben, Salmonella, Greed, Corruption, free society?? Anyone??? Real Estate is pretty cheap, I bet we could pool our money for a pretty cool island…..

According the the Daily Sun, FUSD will start by adding a middle school to Sinagua HS. After that the other middle schools will “partner” with their geographically closest HS. This could save the district $$$$, as enrollment rates have been decreasing for some time.

I have mixed feeling about this. The biggest pro, for me, is that advanced students will be able to take HS classes while in middle school, “moving FUSD away from instruction based on chronological age and more toward student ability” (quoted from ADS) . As a mom to a girl, I don’t love the idea of my 7th grader going to school on campus with much older boys, or girls for that matter. HS girls are some of the meanest people ever! Although, the SHS and SMS will be fairly seperate.

Let me start by saying this was on my YAHOO! homepage, I am not really into celeb gossip. I guess Jessica Simpson gained  few pounds, and her sister stuck up for her. I googled it after I read the article on YAHOO! and man are people mean! BFD, so she gained a few pounds, she’s human. I am not really a  fan of hers, I guess I’m too old! I will say, she is too young for mom jeans…. But about her weight, so what if she isn’t  size 2? If more celebs were  at  healthy weight, as opposed to being too thin, I imagine women and young girls would ‘t have such horrible body issues.  There is nothing wrong with having some meat on your bones! I cannot believe the horrible things that people said, really horrible. Boo to those that judge other human beings so harshly based solely on their appearance. Her weight is fine, although her stylist didn’t do very well with her wardrobe that day!

{January 27, 2009}   Dirt don’t hurt….

This article talks about how some exposure to dirt, worms, etc. is beneficial to the immune system of babies.

We respect the 5 second rule in our house. I was at a playgroup a few weeks ago, and my DD was eating off the floor like a dog. I didn’t worry, although some of the moms may have thought it odd. I have dogs, they lick my daughter, and I don’t worry. I use hand sanitizer on occasion, but Clean Well, not alcohol based ones. I use regular soap, I think anti-bac soap is one of the worst things to happen to humans in a long time. It kills the good and bad germs. I believe we are creating antibiotic resistant bacteria, because of our germaphobia. I’m just sayin’….

I am very careful about not buying anything with HFCS. It is everywhere, seriously. Have you read your BREAD label lately? I buy Milton’s from Sam’s as it doesn’t have HFCS. I commented a while back about the Corn Industry commercials. Corn just like sugar????? Yeah right! MERCURY IS FOUND IN HFCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  “In making HFCS, caustic soda is used, among other things, to separate corn starchfrom the corn kernel. For decades, HFCS has been made using mercury-grade causticsoda produced in industrial chlorine (chlor-alkali) plants. The use of mercury cells to produce caustic soda can contaminate caustic soda, and ultimately HFCS, with mercury.”      Ummmm, sounds so sweet andf yummy…..

Here is the link to the HFCS Mercury connection!

A list of foods tested, and the mercury levels

But to think, some mom’s don’t vac, because of Mercury, but we eat it on a daily basis and don’t even know it. I have said for years, I am not sure vacs are the issue. I was vac’d with many of the same vac’s used today, but I never had Mac& Cheese out of a box. I truly believe the crap we ingest, AKA food, is linked to Autism. Commercially farmed/manufactured meat? Everything out of a box? Convenience is killing us.

HFCS is processed, and I try not to buy many processed foods. I make Mac & Cheese from scratch, not a box. I do buy  Annie’s Bunnies for my DD at NF’s, and things like that. NF’s is the only place I really buy stuff like that. I make applesauce for my DD everyday, with my Magic Bullet. I put an apple, a bit of water or Naked juice, and a touch of Agave if the apples are tart.  I use whatever organic apples are on sale.

{January 26, 2009}   Rumor has it….

that Right Start (which owns Babystyle and Tiny Ride) is going out of business. This is an ubsubstantiated rumor, but comes from a few sources with some facts to back it up.  I would use any gift cards you have to any of those store, while you can. Tinyride.com redirects you to RightStart.com . Babystyle.com has been down since last week, according to those in the know.  Just an FYI.

Did you know that 36 billion pounds of toxic acrylic polymer solvents, found in many traditional art supplies, are produced each year?

WOW!!!! Not only bad for our children and households, but for the earth as a whole. I will definitely think more about the art supplies I buy for my DD. More reason to buy eco-friendly items for our children!

I just looked up Crayola info, and they use animal fat in their crayons, as do most other brands I would imagine.  Seeing as I don’t eat animals, and use cruelty-free stuff, I would no longer buy traditional crayons anyway. I have nothing against soybean torture, in fact I killed a few at Hiro’s just the other night!

Note: The first paragraph was taken form the Daily Sun.

Great, now I am behind 2 episodes. I guess I have to go to HULU.com to watch them. Sheesh, I though Mama knew everything! LOL
